Meet Mickey Eason, one of The Glenmary’s extraordinary residents, since May, 2009. Mickey was born and raised in Illinois, but has been living in Memphis since 1946 and considers herself to be a true Southerner. “I came to Memphis to visit some girlfriends many years ago, and I liked it so much I never left!”
Mickey was married to Dr. J. L. Eason, a local dentist, for 53 wonderful years, and she also worked in his office for over 30 years. Although she is now retired, you won’t find her sitting idle very often. Each morning, she comes down to the Bistro for breakfast, impeccably dressed and ready to start her day with a positive attitude and her terrific sense of humor. Mickey’s favorite pastimes are visiting with friends, shopping, traveling, dancing and she is very competitive at Gin Rummy. “I like to win!” she says. And she very often does!.
When asked, Mickey will gladly tell you that one of the reasons she loves living at The Glenmary, is the people. “Everyone is so nice and so friendly and always there to help me with anything I need. I feel like the staff here cares, and that really matters to me. I feel like we are all family here and I am very happy.”
Pets are allowed at The Glenmary, and that is important to Mickey because she adores her cat, “Mister”. You can often find Mister riding around on the seat of Mickey’s walker, making friends with all the other residents and thoroughly enjoying the attention. So if you come visit us at The Glenmary, be sure to be on the lookout for Mickey and Mister. You just might make some new friends.
Lois Capaldi was the very first resident to move into The Glenmary at Evergreen. Originally from Pittsburg, she moved after her husband, Tullio Capaldi, passed on in 2006. Wanting to be closer to her son Ralph and his family, she decided to make Memphis her new home. Ralph Mulholland, a pilot instructor for FedEx, is married and has two children. Lois is a very proud grandmother and spends as much time with her family and grandchildren as possible.
Each morning, you can find Lois on her private balcony, reading her Bible and enjoying the view from her 10th floor apartment home. She said the balconies were one of the reasons she chose The Glenmary. “I love how quiet and serene it is looking out over the tops of the trees, and how beautiful it is at night with all the lights shining from the city below.” She also values how safe and secure she feels living in a fully gated community with 24 hour security. “I can go to bed at night, put my head on my pillow and sleep without worry and fear. I’m never completely alone, and that is very comforting to me”.
In addition to the views and the security, Lois also chose The Glenmary because of the variety of activities. She is extremely active and enjoys spending time with her ever growing social circle, and wanted to live in a community where there are a lot of things to do. When asked which activity she likes the best, she responds with a very enthusiastic “All of them!” She participates twice a week in water aerobics and takes an Ai-Chi class in the outdoor pool. She plays cards nightly with her friends (500 Rummy is her game!), attends happy hour, wine tastings in the bistro, and plays shuffleboard. She is an amazingly spirited individual and has a contagious zest for life.
When new residents move in, or guests stop by, Lois is always among the first to greet them with a cheerful smile and a warm welcome. What you notice first about her is her smile and cheerful demeanor, and what you remember about her, is what a truly special person she is.
Thank you Lois Capaldi for making The Glenmary your home.
